General Questions

Where do the trips meet at?

Unless other arrangements are made prior, all trips meet at our shop which is located at 868 Zion Park Blvd, in the center of the town of Springdale. Secure parking is available.

How do I book a trip?

The majority of our trips can be book directly through our website.  We can also make a booking over the phone at (435) 633-1783 if you need assistance or online booking isn’t available.

Should I tip my guide?

We are often asked whether it is appropriate to tip your guide and what a reasonable amount might be. If you feel your guide has provided an exceptional trip experience, gratuities are encouraged—and welcomed—at the end of the trip. The amount is at your discretion, but a sum of about 10 % of your trip price can be considered a general tipping standard.

Canyoneering

Do I need any prior rappelling or climbing experience for this trip?

No prior experience is needed for our canyoneering trips.  The majority of our clients are beginners and we have a lot of experience guiding individuals of varying skill and ability.

What Gear does ZMS provide?

ZMS will provide all necessary technical rappelling gear, backpacks, drybags and wetsuits (if needed), sticky rubber canyoneering shoes, and transportation to the canyon.

Will we be getting wet?

The amount of water in the canyon’s vary with the season.  Our half day canyoneering trips are typically dry  but may have some wading after a heavy rain.  Our full day canyoneering trips often have water but dry options are available upon request.

Are these trips in Zion National Park?

No. Zion National Park does not allow commercial guiding inside of the park.  We run all of our guided canyoneering and rockclimbing trips on nearby wilderness, BLM, Forest Service, and state park lands. These are often less traveled areas that are very similar to the national park in their geology and geography.

What gear do I need to bring?

You will need to wear comfortable clothing you can be active in, synthetic fabrics are preferred. Also you will need to bring your own food and water. 1-2 quarts is suitable for our half day trips and 2-3 quarts for a full day depending on the season.  Also personal items such as cameras, sunscreen, chapstick, and hat are recommended.

What is the age range suitable for this trip?

We can accommodate kids as young as 6 and have taken adults as old as 80.  Half-day trips may be more suitable for younger kids or those not accustomed to the heat of the summer.
